Finally, We Got Our T-shirt!

Well, it took awhile, but Mommy finally made us our own t-shirts…and, because she said we waited so patiently, we even got new skirts, too! Riley and I were the first ones to wear the new clothes. Riley was so excited!

She wanted to show Michael her new clothes right away.

Riley: Look Michael, we got new shirts and skirts! Do you like them?

Michael: Um, yeah, sure, whatever.

Riley: Whatever? He didn’t even really look at us!

Me: He’s just busy. You know Michael, he just loves to build things.

Riley: Humph!

Michael: Aw, I’m sorry, Riley. Here. I was going to wait until tomorrow, but maybe these will make you feel better.

Kruselings Simple Scoop Neck T-shirt

Materials:

Size 10 crochet thread

2.00 mm knitting needles (UK – 14, US – 0)

3 small snaps

Tension:

10 stitches per 1”/2.5 cm

Stitches:

Garter stitch – knit every row

Stockinette stitch – 1) Knit. 

        2) Knit 1, purl to last stitch, knit 1.

Rib stitch – 1) k 2, *p 1, k 1,* repeat from star to star across row.

                  2) As per row 1.

Abbreviations:

K – knit

P – purl

M 1 – pick up loop between stitch just worked and next stitch and place on left hand needle; working into the back of the loop, knit (or purl) – inc made

K 2 tog – knit the next two stitches together as one – decrease made

Sl – slip next stitch

Psso – pass slipped stitch over stitch just knit – decrease made

Sts – stitches

Cast on 26 sts.

  1. K 3, *p 1, k 1,* repeat from star to star to last 3 sts, k 3.
  2. K 3, *p 1, k 1,* repeat from star to star to last 3 sts, k 3.
  3. K 4, m 1, *k 2, m 1,* repeat from star to star to last 4 sts, k 4 (36 sts).
  4. (All purl rows are worked this way, unless otherwise indicated) K 3, purl to last 3 sts, k 3.
  5. K 3, m 1, *k 3, m 1,* repeat from star to star to last 6 sts, k 6 (46 sts).
  6. Purl row.
  7. K 5, m 1, *k 4, m 1,* repeat from star to star to last 5 sts, k 5 (56 sts).
  8. Purl row.
  9. K 7, m 1, *k 5, m 1,* repeat from star to star to last 4 sts, k 4 (66 sts).
  10. Purl row.

Divide for second sleeve:

Return to row 17 and rejoin yarn to centre stitches:

17) K 44, turn.

18) K 1, purl 20, k 1, turn.

19) K 1, sl 1, k 1, psso, knit to last 3 sts, k 2 tog, k 1.

20) K 1, purl 18, k 1.

21) K 2, *p 1, k 1,* repeat from star to star to end of row.

22) K 2, *p 1, k 1,* repeat from star to star to end of row.

Cast off in rib.

Body of t-shirt:

Return to row 17 and rejoin yarn to last 12 stitches:

17) Knit to end of row.

18) K 3, p 8, p 2 tog, p 20, p 2 tog, p 8, k 3 (44 sts).

19) Knit.

20) K 3, purl to last 3 sts, k 3.

Repeat rows 19 and 20, 4 times more.

29) K 4, *p 1, k 1,* repeat from star to star to last 4 sts, p 1, k 3.

30) K 4, *p 1, k 1,* repeat from star to star to last 4 sts, p 1, k 3.

Cast off in rib.

Sew sleeve seams.  Darn in all loose yarn ends.  Close back opening with 3 small snaps.

Bonus: How to make a simple skirt for Kruselings

1) Make two pattern pieces: The first pattern piece for the skirt is 4 1/2 inches (11.5 cm) by 5 1/2 inches (14 cm), with the shorter side to be cut on a fold. The second piece for the waistband and straps is 1 1/2 inches (3.5 cm) by 5 1/2 inches (14 cm). 2) Cut one skirt piece on a fold, and three pieces for the one waistband and two straps.

3) Finish the short edges of the skirt. Sew two rows of gathering threads across one long edge.

6) Fold both straps in half lengthwise, and top stitch both sides. Finish the ends of both straps.

4) Turn under both long edges of the two straps, 1/4 inch (.5 cm). 5) Turn under one long edge of the waistband, 1/4 inch (.5 cm).

7) Right sides together, gather the skirt to fit the raw edge of the waistband, leaving 1/4 inches (.5 cm) free at each end of the waistband, and turning 1/2 inch (1.3 cm)of left skirt edge under, for the over placket.

8) Sew the seam. Finish the edges of the seam. Press the seam toward the waistband. Right side facing, top stitch, if desired, close to the seam.

9) Fold the waistband in half, right sides together. Sew each side of the waistband with 1/4 inch (.5 cm) seams. Trim the ends as shown.

10) Turn the waistband right side out. Fold the pressed edge over the seam. Pin in place. Hand stitch to close the pressed edge in place.

11) Sew the back seam for approximately 2 1/2 inches (6.5 cm), as shown. Press the over placket in place.

12) Narrow hem the lower edge of the skirt; then, turn and sew the hem again, another 1/2 inches (1.3 cms).

13) Sew a snap in place to close the back waistband. 14) Turn the skirt inside out, and place it on the doll. Pin the straps in place at centre front in a v-shape, so that the straps will cross over each other at the back. Remove the garment from doll, and sew the straps in place.

15) Put the garment back on the doll, still inside out. Pin the straps to the back waistband to fit to the doll. Mark the placements of the straps with two pins, one for the slant needed on the strap and one for the slant needed on the waistband.

16) Sew snaps to the ends of the straps and the inside of the waistband. (Hint: When dressing the doll, fasten the straps in place before closing the back opening snap.)

17) Enjoy how pretty your little Kruselings doll looks in her new t-shirt and skirt set!

  1. 1)  Couper deux pièces : La première pièce de patron sera pour la jupe qui mesure 4 1/2 pouces (11,5 cm) sur 5 1/2 pouces (14 cm), le côté le plus court devant être coupé sur un pli (tissu plié en deux). La deuxième pièce pour la ceinture et les bretelles mesure 1 1/2 pouces (3,5 cm) sur 5 1/2 pouces (14 cm).
  2. 2)  Coupez un morceau de jupe sur un pli et trois morceaux pour la ceinture et les deux bretelles.3) Surfiler les bords courts de la jupe. Coudre deux rangs de fils de fronce sur un bord long.

4) Retourner les deux bords longs des deux bretelles, sur 1/4 de pouce (0,5 cm).
5) Retourner sur un long bord la ceinture, 1/4 de pouce (0,5 cm).
6) Plier les deux bretelles en deux dans le sens de la longueur et surpiquez les deux côtés. Fermer les extrémités des deux bretelles.

7) Endroit contre endroit, assembler la ceinture à la jupe en laissant 1/4 pouces (0,5 cm) libre à chaque extrémité de la ceinture et en tournant 1/2 pouce (1,3 cm) du bord gauche de la jupe dessous, pour la patte supérieure.

8) Faire la couture. Terminer de coudre les bords pour finir. Appuyez sur la couture vers la ceinture.

14) Retourner la jupe et placez-la sur la poupée. Épingler les bretelles au centre devant en forme de V, de sorte que les bretelles se croisent à l’arrière. Retirez le vêtement de la poupée et coudre les bretelles.
