Little Sasha baby has got her new coat and bonnet. Mommy is getting her ready for the Sasha Festival next year, and this is the first outfit. Mommy is going to sew her some long pants and a shirt to wear with this knitted set. In the meantime, we told Mommy that even though Baby is going to go to a new home next year, she needs a name right now.
Mommy thought for a minute, and then said she had the right name for Baby. This July, Susanna Lewis, one of the best known Sasha experts in the world, passed away on the 15th. Everyone in the Sasha community misses her already. We are giving Baby the name Susanna, to honour Susanna Lewis.
Susanna is very pleased with her new name. She knows that next year, her new Mommy or Daddy might change her name again, but for now, she is just happy to be the namesake of such a wonderful person, who left behind so many Sasha memories and friends.
Below is the pattern for Susanna’s first coat and bonnet. We are going to try and get Mommy to make the set in our size before the weather turns colder this fall! In the meantime, if you have a baby like Susanna at your house, maybe she would like some new knitted clothes, too.
Baby Sasha Coat and Bonnet
Materials:
Bernat Softee Baby Yarn or similar weight – 3 – light yarn
3.5 mm knitting needles (US – 4; UK – 9)
4 medium (shirt size) buttons
Tension:
5 and 1/2 stitches per 1”/2.5 cm
Stitches Used:
Garter stitch – knit every row
Stockinette stitch – knit one row, purl one row
Abbreviations:
K – knit
P – purl
Dec – knit or purl two together
Yo – yarn over
Sts – stitches
Tog – together
Psso – pass slipped stitch over the stitch just knitted, making a decrease
M 1 – increase one by inserting the right hand needle under the strand of yarn in the row beneath and between, the stitch just worked and the next stitch; place the picked up loop onto the left hand needle; knit into the back of the loop and slip the worked stitch off the needle
Baby Sasha Coat
Back:
Cast on 48 stitches. Knit 2 rows even in garter stitch.
3) Knit.
4) K 1, *p 2, k 2,* repeat from star to star to last 3 stitches, p 2, k 1.
Repeat rows 3 and 4, 26 times more.
Decrease for bodice:

Repeat rows 5 and 6, 8 times more.
23) K 5, dec, *k 4, dec,* repeat from star to star to last 5 stitches, k 5 (31 sts).

Cut yarn leaving a tail for sewing.
Thread tail through the 8 stitches remaining on needle. Pull tight, and tack circle closed on wrong side. Sew back seam for 7 garter stitch ridges.
Neck Band and Ties:
Cast on 36 stitches. With right side facing, pick up 20 stitches across neck edge of bonnet, cast on 36 stitches (92 sts).
Knit 1 row.
Cast off.
Darn in all loose yarn ends.

Sasha Baby Gets a Coat and Bonnet
Le petit bébé Sasha a son nouveau manteau et son nouveau bonnet. Maman la prépare pour le festival Sasha l’année prochaine, et c’est la première tenue. Maman va lui coudre un pantalon long et une chemise à porter avec cet ensemble tricoté. En attendant, nous avons dit à maman
que même si bébé va aller dans une nouvelle maison l’année prochaine, elle a besoin d’un nom en ce moment.
Maman réfléchit une minute, puis dit qu’elle avait le bon nom pour bébé. En juillet dernier,
Susanna Lewis, l’une des expertes de Sasha les plus connues au monde, est décédée le 15. Elle manque à tout out le monde dans la communauté de Sasha. Nous donnons à bébé le nom de Susanna, en l’honneur de Susanna Lewis.
Susanna est très contente de son nouveau nom. Elle sait que l’année prochaine, sa nouvelle maman ou papa pourrait à nouveau changer de nom, mais pour l’instant, elle est juste heureuse d’être l’homonyme d’une personne si merveilleuse, qui a laissé tant de souvenirs et d’amis de Sasha.
Ci-dessous, le patron du premier manteau et du bonnet de Susanna. Nous allons essayer de faire en sorte que maman fasse l’ensemble à notre taille avant que le temps ne se refroidisse cet automne ! En attendant, si vous avez un bébé comme Susanna chez vous, peut-être qu’elle aimerait aussi de nouveaux vêtements
tricotés.
