Sasha Baby Gets her Jacket, Leggings and Scarf

As promised, here are the patterns for the rest of Ona’s knitted outfit. I made a new set in blue and purple, and this time, created a jacket to match baby’s hat and scarf designs. The leggings and jacket/scarf patterns are shown separately, so be sure to scroll all the way to the end for both!

Sasha Baby Leggings

Materials: 

2.75 mm knitting needles (UK – 12; US – 2)

2.75 crochet hook (UK – 12; US – C/2)

Fingering yarn in one or two colours (optional)

Tension:

7 stitches per 1 inch/2.5 cm

Abbreviations:

K – knit

P – purl

Dec – decrease by working two stitches together

Tog – together

M 1 – increase one by inserting the right hand needle under the strand of yarn in the row beneath and between, the stitch just worked and the next stitch; place the picked up loop onto the left hand needle; knit into the back of the loop and slip the worked stitch off the needle

Sl 1 – slip one stitches if to knit

Psso – pass slipped stitch over stitch just knitted (decrease made)

Yo – yarn over

Stitches used:

Stockinette Stitch: 1) Knit.

                              2) K 1, Purl to last stitch, K 1.

                              These two rows form pattern.

1 X 1 Ribbing

Leggings:

Right leg:

Cast on 35 stitches.

  1. K2, *p1, k1,* repeat from star to star to last stitch, k1.
  2. *K1, p1,* repeat from star to star to last stitch, k1.
  3. Eyelet row: K2, *yo, k2 tog, p1, k1,* repeat from star to star to last stitch, k1.
  4. *K1, p1,* repeat from star to star to last stitch, k1.

5)   Knit.

6)   K1, purl to last stitch, k1.

7)   K5, turn.

8).  P4, k1, turn.

9)   K10, turn.

10) P9, k1, turn.

11) K15, turn.

12) P14, k1, turn.

13) K1, m1, knit to end of entire row (36 stitches).

14) K1, purl to last stitch, k1.

15) Knit.

16) K1, purl to last stitch, k1.

Repeat rows 13 to 16, once more (37 stitches).

Work even in stockinette stitch for 8 rows more.

*29)K1, m1, knit to last stitch, m1, k1 (39 stitches).

30) K1, purl to last stitch, k1.

Repeat rows 29 and 30, once more (41 stitches).

Mark each end of last row as the end of the front and back body seams.

Continue Leg:

1) Knit.

2) K1, purl to last stitch, k1.

3) K1, sl 1, k1, psso, knit to last three stitches, k2 tog, k1 (39 stitches).

4) K1, purl to last stitch, k1.

Work even in stockinette stitch for 4 rows more.

9) K1, sl 1, k1, psso, knit to last three stitches, k2 tog, k1.

10) K1, purl to last stitch, k1.

11) Knit.

12) K1, purl to last stitch, k1.

Repeat rows 9 to 12, until 27 stitches remain, ending with a row 12.

Work even in stockinette stitch for 2 rows more.

Eyelet row: K1, *yo, k2 tog, k1,* repeat from star to star to last 2 stitches, yo, k2 tog.

Next row: K1, purl to last stitch, k1.*

Foot:

1) K20, turn.

2) K1, p6, k1, turn.

Work even in stockinette stitch for 8 rows more, on these eight stitches.

11) K8, pick up 5 stitches across side of instep, k7, turn.

12) K1, p6, purl to next instep side, pick up 5 stitches purl-ways across side of instep, purl to last stitch, k1 (36 stitches).

13) K12, k2 tog, k 22 to end of row (35 stitches).

14) K1, purl to last stitch, k1.

15) Knit.

16) K1, purl to last stitch, k1.

17) K1, K2 tog, k2, k2 tog, k10, k2 tog, k2, k2 tog, k12.

18) K1, purl to last stitch, k1.

19) K1, k2 tog, k1, k2 tog, k8, k2 tog, k2, k2 tog, k11.

20) K1, p2 tog, p3, p2 tog, (p1, p2 tog) 2 times, p2 tog, (p1, p2 tog) 3 times, p1, k1.

Cast off.

Left Leg:

Cast on 35 stitches.

  1. K2, *p1, k1,* repeat from star to star to last stitch, k1.
  2. *K1, p1,* repeat from star to star to last stitch, k1.
  3. Eyelet row: K2, *yo, k2 tog, p1, k1,* repeat from star to star to last stitch, k1.
  4. *K1, p1,* repeat from star to star to last stitch, k1.

5)   Knit.

6)   K1, p4, turn.

7)   K5, turn.

8)   K1, p9, turn.

9).  K 10, turn.

10) K1, p14, turn.

11) Knit 15, turn.

12) K1, purl across entire row to last stitch, k1.

13) Knit to last stitch, m1, k1.

14) K1, purl to last stitch, k1.

15) Knit.

16) K1, purl to last stitch, k1.

Repeat rows 13 to 16, once more (37 stitches).

Work even in stockinette stitch for 8 rows more.

Continue to decrease for leg as for right leg from * to *.

Foot:

  1. K15, turn.
  2. K1, p6, k1, turn.

Work even in stockinette stitch for 8 rows more, on these eight stitches.

11) K8, pick up 5 stitches across side of instep, knit to end of row.

12) K1, p 10, p2 tog, p12, pick up 5 stitches purl-ways across side of instep, p6, k1.

13) K6, k2 tog, knit to end of row.

14) K1, purl to last stitch, k1.

15) Knit.

16) K1, purl to last stitch, k1.

17) K12, k2 tog, k2, k2 tog, k10, k2 tog, k2, k2 tog, k1.

18) K1, purl to last stitch, k1.

19) K11, k2 tog, k2, k2 tog, k8, k2 tog, k1, k2 tog, k1.

20) K1, (p1, p2 tog) 4 times, p2 tog, (p1, p2 tog) 2 times, p3, p2 tog, k1.

Cast off.

To Make Up:

Sew front and back body seams to markers.  Sew leg seams from crotch through foot.

Using two strands of yarn together, crochet waist and ankle ties as follows:

Waist: One chain of 105 stitches.

Ankle: Two chains of 55 stitches each.

Thread ties through eyelet loops at waist and ankles of leggings.

Tension:

7 stitches per 1 inch/2.5 cm

Stitches used:

Garter Stitch: Knit every row.

Stockinette Stitch: 1) Knit.

                              2) K 1, Purl to last stitch, K 1.

                              These two rows form pattern.

1 X 1 Ribbing

Jacket:

Note:  If making jacket in one colour, omit references to main colour (mc) and contrast colour (cc).

Beginning with right front:

Cast on 20 stitches in cc.

Work 6 rows even in garter stitch in cc.

Join in mc, and proceed as follows:

Rows 7 to 10: Work even in stockinette stitch in mc (for 4 rows).

Rows 11 to 12: Switch to cc, and work even in garter stitch (for 2 rows).

Repeat rows 7 to 12, once more.

Break off cc, and continue with mc: Work 5 rows even in stockinette stitch, ending with a knit row.

Decrease for armhole edge:

Cast off 2 stitches, purl to last stitch, k1.

Work 10 rows evening stockinette stitch on 18 stitches, ending with a purl row.

Decrease for neck edge:

  1. Cast off 5 stitches, knit to end of row.
  2. K1, purl to last stitch, k1.
  3. K1, sl 1, k1, psso, knit to end of row.
  4. K1, purl to last 3 stitches, p2 tog, k1.
  5. K1, sl 1, k1, psso, knit to end of row.
  6. K1, purl to last 3 stitches, p2 tog, k1.
  7. K1, sl 1, k1, psso, knit to end of row.
  8. K1, purl to last 3 stitches, p2 tog, k1.

Work even in stockinette stitch for 6 rows even on remaining 7 stitches.

Break yarn and leave 7 stitches on a stitch holder or spare yarn.

Left Front:

Cast on 20 stitches in cc.

Work 6 rows even in garter stitch.

Join in mc, and proceed as follows:

Rows 7 to 10: Work even in stockinette stitch in mc (for 4 rows).

Rows 11 to 12: Switch to cc, and work even in garter stitch (for 2 rows).

Repeat rows 7 to 12, once more.

Break off cc, and continue with mc: Work 6 rows even in stockinette stitch, ending with a purl row.

Decrease for armhole edge:

Cast off 2 stitches, knit to end of row.

Work 11 rows evening stockinette stitch on 18 stitches, ending with a knit row.

Decrease for neck edge:

  1. Cast off 5 stitches, purl to last stitch, k1.
  2. Knit to last 3 stitches, k 2 tog, k1.
  3. K1, p2 tog, purl to last stitch, k1.
  4. Knit to last 3 stitches, k 2 tog, k1.
  5. K1, p2 tog, purl to last stitch, k1.
  6. Knit to last 3 stitches, k 2 tog, k1.
  7. K1, p2 tog, purl to last stitch, k1.

Work even in stockinette stitch for 6 rows even on remaining 7 stitches.

Join right and left front pieces for back:

K7 across left front, cast on 18 stitches, knit across the 7 stitches of right front (32 stitches).

Beginning with a purl row, work even in stockinette stitch for 17 rows, ending with a purl row.

Increase for armhole edges and for back: 

  1. Cast on 2 stitches, K6, m1, *k4, m1,* repeat from star to star to last 4 stitches, k4 (43 stitches).
  2. Cast on 2 stitches, K1, purl to last stitch, k1.

Work 4 rows even in stockinette stitch.

Join in cc, and proceed as follows:

7) Knit across row in cc.

8) Knit across row in cc.

Rows 9 to 12: Switch to mc and work even in stockinette stitch (for 4 rows).

Repeat rows 7 to 12 once more.

Break off mc.

With cc, work 7 rows in garter stitch.  Cast off purl-ways.

Front Bands:  

Left Front: Right side facing, using cc, pick up 19 stitches from neck edge to hem of left front (work one stitch in each of the garter stitch edge ridges).

Work 6 rows in garter stitch, ending with a right side row.  Cast off purl-ways.

Right Front: Right side facing, using cc, pick up 19 stitches from hem to neck edge of left front (work one stitch in each of the garter stitch edge ridges).

Work 3 rows in garter stitch.

Buttonhole row: K3, (yo, k2 tog, k4) 2 times, yo, k2 tog, k2.

Work 2 more rows in garter stitch, ending with a right side row.  Cast off purl-ways.

Neckline and Collar:

Right side facing, with cc, skip first half of top edge of right front band, and pick up 2 stitches over second half of band, continue to pick up 5 stitches across front neck edge, 6 stitches across shoulder, 17 stitches across back (by knitting 9 stitches, k2 tog, k7 stitches), 6 stitches across shoulder, 5 stitches across front neck edge, and 2 stitches across first half of top edge of left front band (43 stitches).

  1. *(K1, p1) 3 times, k1, p2 tog,* repeat from star to star to last 7 stitches, (K1, p1) 3 times, k1 (39 stitches).
  2. K2, *p1, k1,* repeat from star to star to last stitch, k1.
  3. *K1, p1,* repeat from star to star to last stitch, k1.
  4. K2, *p1, k1,* repeat from star to star to last stitch, k1.

Increase for collar:

5) K1, (m1, k7) 2 times, m1, k9, (m1, k7) 2 times, m1, k1 (45 stitches).

Work 7 rows in garter stitch.  Cast off knit-ways.

Sleeves (both made alike):

Right side facing, and using mc, pickup 2 stitches at underarm, 21 stitches across armhole edge, and another 2 stitches at underarm (25 stitches).

Knit 1 row.

Rows 1 to 4: Beginning with a knit row, work 4 rows in stockinette stitch, in mc.

Rows 5 to 6: Using cc, work 2 rows in garter stitch.

Repeat rows 1 to 4, once more.

11) Using cc, k1, sl 1, k1, psso, knit to last 3 stitches, k2 tog, k1.

12) Knit.

Repeat rows 1 to 4, once more.

Break off mc.

Using cc, work 7 rows in garter stitch.  Cast off purl-ways.

To Make Up:

Sew side and sleeve seams of jacket.  Darn in all loose yarn ends.  Sew three buttons to match buttonholes.

Matching Scarf:

Using cc, cast on 9 stitches.

  1. Knit.
  2. Knit.
  3. Knit.
  4. K2, purl 5, k2.
  5. Knit.
  6. K2, purl 5, k2.

Repeat rows 1 to 6, until 26 repeats have been formed.

Work 2 rows even in garter stitch.  Cast off.  Darn in loose yarn ends.
