An Update on the Christmas Dollhouse

The furniture in progress: I used 1/2″ wooden cubes for cabinets, sinks, the stove and the refrigerator (two cubes glued together). The other pieces are made from strong cardboard and beads.
I basically cut pieces from graph paper until I thought they matched the sizes of the stove and fridge and the rooms. The scale seems to have turned out well.
Some pieces, I just drew out free hand, again keeping in mind the sizes of the other pieces of furniture. After gluing everything together, I painted all of the furniture.

I chose fairly neutral shades of brown for the bedrooms so that choosing colours for the linens would be easy.
We are in Covid-19 lockdown again, so only paint on hand could be used, which meant finding colours that matched each room, had to be a consideration.

After making the kitchen and table sets, I decided the tables and chairs would be in the study, and a shelving unit was needed. It turned out a little wonky, maybe because I made it later at night, but the unit looks all right in the house.
All in all, the furniture fits and looks okay. I will need to prop and glue the kitchen pieces in place because the floors are uneven, but uneven floors happen, even in the best of real size houses! Next up: linens, pictures for the walls and dolls to play with.

  2. Yes, it’s true kitchen furniture needs to be straightened out !!! You can, maybe put small feet of unequal height in front and in the back to correct. Is the furniture made of wood or cardboard?
The proportions are very good. Bravo for this beautiful layout.

    • I have fixed them with a bit of cardboard to prop them up. It has worked very well. The furniture is a mix of wood and strong cardboard. The paint makes the cardboard stronger, too. I think the girls will be quite happy with their Christmas dollhouse when it is finished!
