A Sweater Pattern

Michael and Vera are modelling new sweaters made for them by Mommy. The basic sweater, worn by Michael, is made using single crochet stitches, and has button closures in the back for easy dressing. Vera’s sweater is made from the same pattern, but Mommy added a crossed stitch trim and reverse single crochet edging to show how the pattern can be adapted quite easily for a different look. You could also add embroidery or appliqué details, but Michael and Vera didn’t want any of those on their sweaters.
These are the button closures, but you could use snap fasteners or hook and loop strips instead.
Michael’s sweater is made from Valdani thread #12, which comes in many beautiful colour gradients and combinations.
Vera’s sweater is made from DMC Cebelia thread #30, which comes in solid colours, and shows off fancywork stitches really well.

The pattern for the basic sweater is below. (Please note that Mommy made two sweaters from the same pattern in the hopes of weeding out any errors. If you should find some errors after all, please let her know through the comments section, and she will do her best to correct them.)
