Hyggeligt Reminiscence

Hi. My name is Hitty. In the summer of 2018, I went with my Mom and my Aunt to St. Marys, Ontario. We went to check out the quilt store there, Hyggeligt Fabrics, as it specialized in Kaffe Fassett fabrics.

Here I am posing with a selection of fabrics that caught my eye. I love the brightness of the many colours.

If you have ever seen patterns or products made by Kaffe Fassett, you will recognize the eclectic patterns and colours in these fat quarters. I loved the way the store owners exhibited their fabrics throughout the store. There were lots of these fabric bundles to pick up and enjoy, as well as bolts of fabric in every colour imaginable.

The store owners were friendly and helpful. They didn’t mind at all when I took a lot of time snooping all over their shop. Between the fabrics, quilt samples, specialty threads and patterns, everywhere we turned, there was something else to see.

I was hoping Mommy would make me a new dress from some of the fabric we saw, but she didn’t. She used them all for quilting projects. I keep telling her, we have to go back to get some more, but of course, for now, we aren’t going anywhere until the Covid-19 pandemic is over.

While we were in St. Marys, one of our favourite shows, Murdoch Mysteries, was filming there. Unfortunately, it was an on-and-off rainy sort of day, and every time we saw the film sets, it started raining quite hard. We didn’t get to see any filming at all, but it was fun to see the carriages and horses they were using for their scenes.

In the end, the rain kept up for such a long time that we decided to go and eat instead of following the film crews around.

At O’Leary’s Pub, after our delicious meal, the waiters invited me to meet some other dolls who lived there. You might recognize them from one or your favourite fairy tales?

All in all, we had a great day. We found a beautiful quilt store, met some really friendly people, and enjoyed the ambiance of a lovely small town.
